The BNZ MarketView Consumer Spending Series for the week ending 15 May suggests some softening of retail spending after some weeks of sustained growth.
Kiwis' retail spending was up by 3.2% over the same week last year and transaction volumes rose by a similar number (+2.7%).
While spending growth remains generally positive, these lower figures are due to a pull back in grocery spending and a continued decrease in fuel spending.
