Apple teases watchOS 4
Earlier this month, Apple previewed its new watchOS 4. The update features an enhanced Workout app with GymKit, a new technology platform that offers connected workouts with cardio equipment.
Siri intelligence also extends further with a new Siri watch face that dynamically updates important info displayed based on the time of day.
WatchOS 4 also allows users to make and receive person to person payments quickly, easily and securely with Apple Pay within Messages or using Siri. When users get paid, they receive the money in their Apple Pay Cash account and can use it instantly to send to someone or make purchases using Apple Pay in stores and apps or transfer it to their bank account.
WatchOS 4 will be available this September as a free update to Apple Watch paired with iPhone 5s and later on iOS 11.
Who are NZ’s wearable users?
New data from Nielsen Consumer & Media Insights shows that more than 393,000 Kiwis aged 15+ wear a device on their wrist that can do more than tell the time.
The number of people with wearable device owners has almost doubled (+93%) in the past year and currently represents 9% of the online population aged 15+.
Around half of this number are aged 20-39 and thought to be independent young adults or adults with young children with a personal income 16% higher than the national average.
Wearable owners are also identified as career driven with “busy but active” lifestyles with a focus on exercise, gym going and healthy eating.
The study also shows connections between wearable owners and personal appearance and status with 41% “taking care of their appearance at all times” and 21% saying they “have to have the latest gadgets”.
