SMALL DOMESTIC APPLIANCES CATEGORY ROUND-UP

By Wares February 27, 2018 Small domestic appliances

A round-up of some of the latest local and international small domestic appliances category news.

“Domestic outsourcing” to impact retailers?

Outsourcing on a domestic scale is impacting small appliance retailing in the UK.

Analysts are saying that the ongoing trend towards time-poor consumers in the UK saying “Do It For Me”, rather than doing daily tasks themselves, is impacting sales of small domestic appliances (SDAs – kettles, irons, vacuum cleaners etc.).

SDA sales are therefore forecast to fall marginally (–0.7%), thanks to consumers using home services for their cleaning needs, for example.

Cleaning and laundry businesses are also increasingly moving online and there is a growing number of apps offering services that appeal to a younger demographic.

As a result of all this, sales of irons are forecast to fall by 1.3% over the next year, and floor care by 2%.

Let’s hope Kiwis aren’t as keen on having someone else do it for them…
