IS THIS A TRULY "SMART" OVEN?

Although using a direct to consumer model, the June Smart Oven (right)is an on-counter cooker that can cook, microwave, air fry, dehydrate and slow cook.

Best of all, it’s also an incredibly smart, connected device that can recognise more than 50 foods with a built-in camera and change its settings to suit.

The June was developed by ex-Apple staff several years ago but was initially rather expensive. Streamlined design and firmware upgrades have managed to get the latest iteration down to US$500.

Its smart connectivity has also seen the new model include a Whole Foods button, which lets users cook specific pre-packaged nosh from the now Amazon-owned Whole Foods grocer using automatically activated cooking information.

There are several smart countertop cookers coming out at the moment but word around the market is that it’s the level of firmware support that could determine which player comes out on top.
