2018 ETA CONFERENCE REPORT

Service industry looks ahead at 2018's ETA conference in Wellington.

The 2018 Electro Technical Association (ETA) conference was held at the James Cook Grand Chancellor Hotel Wellington over the weekend of 23-25 March.

As usual, delegates represented the NZ service industry and distributors for the consumer electronics, whiteware and portable appliances.

Technical workshops were held throughout the conference by distributors on their latest range of appliances, this year many showing the benefits of Wi-Fi connectivity. 

Saturday morning opened with a welcome address by the ETA President, Andrew Watson, followed with a very informative address by keynote speaker BNZ Chief Economist, Tony Alexander.

Tony was followed by Lance Riesterer, General Manager of The Skills Organisation, who talked to the changes that Skills and the training industry had faced over the past year, the challenges that face our industry in the future. and the increasing importance to grow the apprenticeship intake.

Sunday morning saw another informative presentation from Bill Sole, General Manager of the Electro Technical Education Centre, which develops and provides the training and support courses for our industry.

Saturday night was about celebration the servicing industry's annual APEX Awards.

And the 2018 award winners were:

  • Supplier Excellence Consumer Electronics - LG Electronics
  • Supplier Excellence Portable Appliances - Sunbeam NZ
  • Service Excellence Whiteware - Gabites Appliance Service, Timaru
  • Service Excellence Consumer Electronics - Pro Video, Christchurch
  • Service Excellence Portable Appliances - Kingsroy Electric, New Plymouth
  • Outstanding Contribution to the Service Industry - Bernard & Colleen Fouhy, Eclipse Electronics
  • Outstanding Contribution to the Service Industry - Gavin Bowden, ETA Chief Executive

An enjoyable evening was enjoyed by all with music provided by local band Itchycoo Park.

The ETA put out special thanks to Chief Executive Gavin Bowden and the Board of Directors plus sponsors, LG Electronics, Panasonic, The SKILLS Organisation / ETEC, Bosch, De'Longhi, Samsung, Sunbeam, The Warehouse and Vodafone, who all helped to make this year's conference a success.

Planning is underway for next year's conference which will be held in Rotorua.
