CANON: INTERCHANGEABLE LENS MARKET MAY SHRINK BY 50%
In a recent interview, Canon CEO, Fujio Mitarai, has stated that he expects the Interchangeable Lens Camera (ILC) market to shrink by as much as 50% to 5-6 million units by 2020 down from the current 10 million.
This follows year on year decreases of 10% in this category which haven’t been helped by mirrorless sales that have cannibalised the ILC market.
To counter this drop, Canon may be putting more R&D into corporate sales in industrial, surveillance and medical industries in future.
FUJIFILM X-T30 MIRRORLESS CAMERA
Fujifilm has launched its latest X-series mirrorless camera since the last magazine.
Described as "the ultimate all-rounder – great for beginners but also a camera that photography enthusiasts won’t outgrow", the X-T30 will be available in New Zealand from 20 March.
Baby brother to the top-end X-T3 (with which it shares its sensor and processor), the new X-T30 offers 26.1MP resolution and fast high-performance AF.
In addition, phase detection pixels are now across the entire frame (100%).
Other features include a joystick to make shifting focus points easier, a new intuitive touch-screen panel with improved response, and an improved body design that offers better holding stability to ensure comfortable shooting even with larger lenses.
Launched alongside the X-T30 was the new FUJINON XF16mmF2.8 R WR prime lens.
Also available in New Zealand from 20 March, this compact, lightweight lens features a focal length equivalent to 24mm (in the 35mm format) and has a maximum aperture of F2.8.
