Having previously indicated that its New Zealand operation would be "an ongoing focus", JB Hi-Fi yesterday revealed to the NZ Herald that it was taking whiteware out of the equation, for this territory at least.
As announced in February's first half report, the New Zealand operation has been struggling to achieve top or bottom line growth and CEO Richard Murray says that as part of a two-year plan for this market JB Hi-Fi is now looking to "other product categories where we think we have better growth opportunities".
As well as confirming the closure of its Auckland DC, the NZ Herald article stated that JB Hi-Fi would be closing its store in Auckland's Westgate Shopping Centre which Richard Murray said was "unprofitable".
JB Hi-Fi's decision to reduce its appliance offering to smalls will have some flow-on effect across the rest of the channel.
The whiteware brands currently stocked in four JB Hi-Fi New Zealand stores include Beko, DeLonghi, Haier, LG, Samsung, Sharp and Westinghouse.
